Bottega Louie
Tuesday, April 26, 2011 23:48 12 CommentsBottega is an Italian term traditionally used to refer to a place where aspiring artists learn from masters. Based on this definition, Bottega Louie has it all wrong, because there is nothing amateurish about this place. Bottega Louie is only about one year old, but it became one of my favorite places in [...]
Sushi Cali-style — Kiwami
Monday, April 18, 2011 18:40 7 CommentsOkay, it’s hardly traditional sushi — way too much sauce, mayo and spice — but Sushi Chef Katsuya Uechi knows how we like our sushi in L.A.
Part of the Katsuya-group of restaurants around LA, Kiwami opened a few doors down from the original Katsuya in Studio City, which opened in 1997.
If you want [...]

One of the comments on that post was by Evan, who informed me that Scoops was opening a location in West Los Angeles. Ever since then, I have been very closely watching for news of the grand [...]
Kang Kang is a Can Can
Monday, November 8, 2010 22:54 14 CommentsOne of my friends thought I was nuts when I suggested we meet at Kang Kang Food Court for a late lunch. He went on to explain to our other friend that he went to Kang Kang a few times back in his college days. Apparently, back then, the place was known for [...]

Geisha House — Très Ordinaire
Friday, September 10, 2010 12:46 13 CommentsOkay, I’ll preface this review with the disclaimer that I was taken out to eat at Geisha House by a visiting European travel/food writer and so, mercifully, I did not pay for this meal.
A free meal at an overrated, passé sushi spot – how bad could it suck?!
Well, it didn’t completely suck, but it certainly [...]
