Summer in Season - Lychees

Several weeks ago, after an evening of Korean barbecue for dinner, Mom put down a bowl of what looked like little, fat pink and yellow dragons in front of me. Eat them! They were for dessert, but I had no idea what they were nor how to attack the little spiny monsters.
They were lychees! Up [...]

Fresh Green Chickpeas

Last week’s sample at Whole Foods led my wife to come home raving. She said I wouldn’t believe how good fresh green chick peas would be, and I agreed. It didn’t sound good. They look like bright green edamame in the shape of chick peas. After tasting them, she snapped them [...]

Summer’s Tomatoes

Tuesday, May 31, 2005 12:04 No Comments

Though it’s still technically Spring until mid-June, LA is already hitting summer numbers on the thermometer - creating just the right climate for a carefree caprese salad – milky mozzarella, soft, supple, a perfectly smooth complexion for the naturally bright yet simple round slices of the tang-colored tomatoes.
